Self Reflection

Coming from a family of three children, I was the only child that was interested in life sciences. My two younger brothers both were inclined to technology, programming and data science and due to the fact that I was able to witness their passion firsthand, I’ve been interested in the ways technology could be implemented to improve healthcare. Thus, I was immediately drawn to the elective program “Data Science for Public Health”.

My initial impression of Data Science was that it mainly involved the organization and analysis of data; which would prove to be correct. However, I was not yet aware of all the uses and ways that it could be implemented.

For this data science elective, naturally we would be taught the basics of data science and the programs or applications we could utilize to conduct it. Thus we were introduced to R and Python, two commonly used languages in data science. Dr. Dwi helped us to download R and RStudio
